My heart skipped a beat when I spotted this wonderful old glazed French pitcher, in a deep shade of orange, at a market in the Languedoc region of Southern France. It's a large piece and probably dates from at least the 1900s and would have been likely used for water or wine. It has such a beautiful, rounded pot belly - so tactile - and is richly glazed in this lovely glowing colour both inside and out. There is some characterful chipping here and there (pictured ) particularly around the spout. One short hairline crack near the rim. However this is a solid and sturdy jug which could easily go on giving pleasure for another hundred years. A really special jug which I am very tempted to keep to keep!
